ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop head men’s soccer coach Rich Posipanko announced the addition of five more players to the 2008 recruiting class.
Posipanko announced the additions of Josh Goldstein, Jordan Osborn, Zac Capito, Tomo Kayano and Michael Luk.
“We feel we have been very fortunate to pick up five additional players that will be able to make an immediate impact this year and beyond,” said Posipanko. “Four of the five players have college experience, which should help accelerate our progress. We will add one more player sometime in the very near future which will complete our 2008 recruiting class. With this class and eight returning starters our goals and expectations remain very high for the 2008. We look forward to getting started.”
Goldstein is the lone freshman of the group and is a midfielder from Aledo, TX. He is the school record holder with 82 assists for Aledo High School. In his four years as a starter he was named All-District four times and was the 2008 Midfielder of the Year. He was also named All-Region and All-State in 2008 and was rewarded for his performance by being named to the Texas 4A/5A All-Star Team.
Osborn is a transfer from St. Louis University and will be eligible as a freshman. The defender from Cartersville, GA was a Gateway All-County and All-Conference selection for Woodward High School. In 2007 he was All-Metro by the St. Louis Dispatch and the St. Louis Soccer Club Player of the Year.
Capito is a transfer from Wingate University and will enter Winthrop as a sophomore. The midfielder is from Ravenna, OH where he attended Kent Roosevelt High School and was an All-Conference selection. This is the second transfer for Capato and he will sit out this season due to the double transfer rule.
Koyano is a junior midfielder from Maryville, TN and is a transfer from the University of Memphis. At Maryville High School he was an All-District and All-Region performer. He was also a member of the Tennessee Olympic Development and a Region 3 Pool Player.
The fifth addition, Luk, is a transfer from St. John’s University where he was a starter for 16 of 20 games. He tied for the team lead at St. John’s with nine points (two goals and five assists). He will be a junior and see action in the midfield and forward position. Luk, from Richmond Hill, Ontario, was a member of the U-17 Canadian National Team and played for North York Azzuri Soccer Club.
These five players join Matt Horn, Matt Lacey, Jacob Lee, Josh Mort and John Michael Kulnig as part of the 2008 recruiting class.
