Kenga Signs Contract With Charleston Battery (3-25-08)

Kenga Signs Contract With Charleston Battery

ROCK HILL, SC-- Former Winthrop men's soccer player David Kenga has signed a two-year contract to play with the Charleston Battery of the USL First Division.

Kenga has recently been playing with the Battery during the Carolina Challenge Cup and was offered a contract this past weekend to play for the Battery in the 2008 season. He scored the game-tying goal against the New York Red Bulls and also scored a goal in a 3-1 win over the College of Charleston in a scrimmage.

"We are very pleased for David," said head coach Rich Posipanko. "He has been a very good player for us during his career at Winthrop. He has worked extremely hard to be in this position and is very deserving of this opportunity to play for the Charleston Battery. This has been a great couple of weeks for the Winthrop Soccer Program, with John Gilkerson, Marco Reda, and now Kenga having signed professional contracts. We also expect to make an announcement concerning Saidi Isaac in the very near future as well."

Kenga was an All-Big South and All-South Atlantic Region player for the Eagles. In 2006 he finished tied for the national lead in assists per game at 0.67 and his three assists in one game tied for the most in a single game in the NCAA Division I. He finished with 13 goals and 21 assists in his three-year career with the Eagles.
