CHARLESTON
, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team battled Charleston Southern for 110 minutes on Monday afternoon, and came away with a 1-1 tie at Buccaneer Field on Monday afternoon.

The tie brings the Eagles record to 7-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference, while the Lady Bucs are now 7-4-4 overall and 2-1-3 in the league.

Jen Vroman would give Charleston Southern an early 1-0 lead in the 16th minute after she made her way into the 18-yard box, and her shot sailed past Dimi Poulos into the top corner of the net.

Andrea McMaster would tie the game at 1-1 in the 56th minute after she scored her first career goal at Winthrop. Jessica Hausfeld started the play after her attempted header from the right side went back across the goal past goalie Alyssa Budros. The ball landed at the feet of McMaster, who then gathered the ball at her feet, and took the shot past Budros.

It appeared the Lady Bucs had scored the game-winning goal in the first overtime when a shot by Emma Mattsson made it past Poulos, but the goal was negated after an offsides penalty was called on Charleston Southern.

The Lady Bucs held a 16-13 and 8-3 advantage in total shots and shots-on-goal, respectively. Charleston Southern also led 8-3 in corner kicks.

Kathleen Pollard, Chelsea White, and Ann Lutzenkirchen led Winthrop with two shots apice, while Poulos grabbed a total of seven saves. Vroman took a total of three shots to lead the Lady Bucs, and Budros finished the game with two saves.

“It was a good game today,” said head coach Melissa Heinz. “Charleston Southern is a great team. We played them hard, but I am still looking from more out of the players. We battled enough for the tie, but we need to get more for a victory. We will take the tie because our effort was not good enough for the win today.”

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 as they travel to Orangeburg, SC to face South Carolina State at 7 p.m. in their final non-conference game of the season.
