Women's Tennis Picked First In Big South Preseason Poll (1-17-08)

Lady Eagles Preseason Favorites To Win Big South Conference

CHARLOTTE, NCWinthrop University’s women’s tennis team has been chosen first in the Big South Conference’s annual preseason poll, as voted by the League’s Head Women’s Tennis Coaches and Sports Information Directors, the League announced today.

 

The Eagles, who have captured the Big South title 10 times, received nine first-place votes and 93 out of a possible 98 points.  Winthrop finished ahead of last years Big South champion Coastal Carolina, which received 78 points. Charleston Southern finished third in the voting with 60 points, while Liberty captured the fourth spot with 52 points. High Point was picked fifth with 48 points, followed by Radford (39) and UNC Asheville (16).

 

The 2008 Big South regular season begins on Saturday, Jan. 19 with Winthrop at Kentucky. The Big South women’s tennis Conference season kicks off Saturday, Feb. 23 with Liberty at Charleston Southern and Winthrop at Radford. The Women’s Tennis Conference Championship is slated for April, 17-19 on the campus of Winthrop University.
