ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop head women’s basketball coach Bud Childers has announced the addition of Chris Vozab to his coaching staff.

 

Vozab comes to Winthrop after spending the previous three seasons at Canisius College as an assistant coach. In her three seasons with Canisius, the program held a record of 55-35 overall and 42-20 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. She was part of the staff that helped Canisius capture the MAAC championship in 2005. Vozab was in charge of coaching the guards at Canisius where she worked with 2005 MAAC Tournament MVP and two-time First Team All-MAAC performer Becky Zak. She also recruited and coached the 2005-06 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Amanda Cavo.

 

“What a perfect fit for our program Chris Vozab will be,” said Childers, who is entering his fourth season with the Lady Eagles. “We were looking for a coach who could coach our guards who had played the position at a high level, someone who had recruiting experience in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic areas, and someone with a few years of Division I coaching experience. Chris has been around winning her whole career as a player and as a coach so we know she will bring that attitude and preparation here to Winthrop. We are excited for her to be a part of the program.”

 

Before her time at Canisius, Vozab was an administrative assistant coach at the University of New Hampshire, where she earned a Masters degree in Literature. Vozab graduated from Providence College, where she was a four-year starter and three-year team captain. In 1999-2000 she was a GTE Academic All-District I Women’s Basketball Team and was a Verizon Academic All-District Second Team selection in 2001-02.
