Eagles Are Ranked In Top 25 In Final National Polls

ROCK HILL, SC--The Winthrop men's basketball team has been ranked in the final Top 25 of the Associated Press, USA Today/ESPN, and Collegehoops.net polls after completing the season with a 29-5 record and a win over Notre Dame in the NCAA tournament.

Coach Gregg Marshall's Eagles were ranked No. 22 in both the AP and USA Today/ESPN Top 25 polls and finished No. 20 in the Collegehoops.net Top 50 Poll.

In addition to those rankings, the Eagles also finished second in the Collegeinsder.com Mid-Major Poll voting, finishing behind Southern Illinois.

Winthrop made school and conference history when it defeated the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, 74-64, at Spokane in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The 2007 Eagles are the first team in Big South Conference history to ever be ranked in the Top 25 of the various men's basketball polls.  Winthrop soared to its third straight Big South championship and seventh during Gregg Marshall's nine years as head coach.  The Eagles became the first Big South team to ever finish the regular season conference schedule undefeated as they were 14-0 before sweeping through the three-game post-season tournament.
