CHARLOTTE, NC -- For the second time this season, Winthrop’s Taryn Surbaugh has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player of the Week in volleyball, while Michelle Maciejewski from Birmingham-Southern was tabbed New Balance Freshman of the Week, the League announced today.
Surbaugh, a senior from Orland Hills, IL, led the Eagles to a 4-0 record on the week, including the championship at the ETSU Buccaneer Classic over the weekend. The tournament MVP posted double-digit kills in all four matches, highlighted by a 19-kill, .607 hitting percentage effort against Charlotte on Sept. 5. For the week, she put away 58 kills (3.87 kills per game), hit .437 and recorded 22 blocks (1.47 blocks per game) to go along with nine digs. For the season, Surbaugh has posted 53 total blocks, 138 kills with a .397 hitting average thus far.
The Eagles will be back in action on the weekend as they will play in the Black and Gold Challenge, hosted by Wake Forest University.
