CHARLOTTE, NC – Winthrop senior Torrell Martin (Columbia, S.C.) and VMI junior Reggie Williams (Prince George, Va.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for games played Nov. 13-19.
Martin scored 51 points in three games, helping Winthrop to a 2-1 record last week and near-upset of No. 2 North Carolina. He averaged 17.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, and scored a game-high 25 points vs. the Tar Heels in the Preseason NIT as he connected on a career-high seven three-pointers. He had his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds vs. Iona in the Preseason NIT. Martin added 15 points and five rebounds in the Eagles’ win at Mississippi State, Winthrop’s second win ever over an SEC school. He also shot .909 percent from the free throw line (10-of-11).
Williams dropped in a school-record 45 points in VMI’s 156-95 win over Virginia Intermont last week. In just 24 minutes of action, he was 18-of-26 from the floor (.692 percent), hit 4-of-9 three-pointers (.444), grabbed eight rebounds and tallied six steals.
