ROCK HILL, SC--Sophomore cross country runner Jennifer Povick cruised to a first place finish to lead Winthrop to a second place finish in the women's university division of the 2005 Winthrop/Asics Invitational. The Eagle men finished third in the final standings.
Povick covered the 5K distance in a time of 18:26 to finish 25 seconds ahead of second place Kali Burt of High Point, who led the Lady Panthers to the team title. Senior Carrie Selmer also finished in the top 10 for Winthrop with a sixth place time of 19:40.
In the men's 8K race, Winthrop had three runners finish in the top 10 led by sophomore Trevor Beesley and Brad Orr in third and fourth place, respectively. Beesley covered the grueling course in a time of 26:11 while Orr was clocked at 26:36. Freshman Brandon Hudgins placed ninth with a time of 27:04.
High Point's Tamas Kovacs claimed the men's individual crown with a time of 25:26 while teammate Kyle Lounsbury was second as the Panthers made it a clean sweep by capturing the men's championship.
