ROCK HILL, SC--Winthrop senior righthanded pitcher Jon Wilson was drafted in the 26th round by the Texas Rangers as the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft concluded. Wilson, who is the fourth member of the 2005 Eagles squad to be drafted, was the 819th player taken overall.
Wilson (State College, PA) compiled a 5-4 record last season with a 3.88 earned run average. Primarily used as a closer during his career, he struck out 68 hitters in 53.1 innings in 2005. He compiled an 11-0 record as a junior and earned pre-season All-America First Team honors from Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
