ROCK HILL, SC-- The Winthrop softball team brought home several awards at the 2005 Big South Conference Softball Championship Tournament Banquet.
Winthrop head coach Mark Cooke was honored for his team's first place finish in the regular season as he was named Co-Coach of the Year along with Radford head coach Amy Kvilhaug.
Stephanie Reid, the Lady Eagles starting shortstop, was honored for her first year performance as she was named Freshman of the Year. Reid was also named to the All-Big South Second Team.
Janiva Willis picked up two awards as she was named the Big South Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year and was named All-Big South First Team for the fourth straight season.
Willis was the only member of the Lady Eagles to make First Team, but including Reid there was four named to the second team. Kelli Johnson was named All-Big South for the fourth time. Her and Willis are only the second and third players in Winthrop history to be named All-Big South four times. For the second consecutive season, Laura Hill was named to the second team as a designated player. Junior Shahna Ashard was honored for the first time after her career season.
The Winthrop Lady Eagles were also presented with their regular season title trophy.
