Janiva Willis Earns First Big South Conference Player Of The Week Honor For 2005 Season (3-14-05)

Willis Became All-Time Doubles Leader In Winthrop History Last Week

ROCK HILL, SC-- Winthrop center fielder Janiva Willis was chosen as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player of the Week.

Willis scored six runs on 19 at-bats and had a .589 slugging percentage in leading Winthrop to five wins.  She hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning to propel Winthrop over St. John’s in the Winthrop/Rigor Invitational and also tallied her seventh double of the season against Western Illinois to become WU’s all-time doubles leader. 

Willis leads the Lady Eagles and is first in the Conference with 19 runs and 33 hits.  She was in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak until it was broken against East Carolina and leads the team with nine multiple hit games, batting .347 and has collected 17 RBIs so far this season.

She scored the go-ahead run in the 4-1 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday.
