Shuler Helps Lead Winthrop To 24-5 Record; Marshall Has Eagles On A 15-Game Win Streak

ROCK HILL, SC--More post-season honors were bestowed on Winthrop junior forward James Shuler and head coach Gregg Marshall today as CollegeInsider.Com announced its 2005 Honor Roll for NCAA Div. I men's basketball.

Shuler was selected the Big South Conference Player of the Year while Marshall is the Coach of the Year.  On Monday, Shuler was selected the All-Big South Conference first team along with teammate Torrell Martin while Marshall was the pick for the league's Coach of the Year for the third time in his seven years at the school.

Shuler, a 6-6 forward/guard from Jonesville, FL, turned his game up a notch in the final 12 regular season conference games as he averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 15 league games.

Marshall, who celebrated his 42nd birthday on Sunday, has led Winthrop to a Div. I school-record 24-5 record and a fourth regular season conference title and No. 1 seed in this week's Big South Conference tournament that begins tonight in Rock Hill and three other sites.  Winthrop enters the tournament on a 15-game winning streak which is tied for third best in the nation.

The Eagles have vaulted to the No. 9 ranking in this week's CollegeInsider.Com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll and received a vote for the first time in the program's history for the Associated Press' Top 25 Poll.
