Phil Hindson Leaving Winthrop For Assistant Soccer Coach Position At Clemson (7-2-04)

Hindson Served As Winthrop Soccer Assistant For Four Years

ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop Head Men’s Soccer Coach Rich  Posipanko has announced that Phil Hindson has resigned his position as assistant soccer coach to accept a similar position at Clemson.

Hindson, a native of Perth, Scotland, and a graduate of William Carey College, has been at Winthrop for four years.

“I would like to thank Coach Posipanko and Winthrop University for the opportunity they have given me.  I have been able to grow as a coach over my four years here and I hope to take this knowledge and make a positive impact at Clemson,” said Hindson.  “I have nothing but the most positive things to say about the athletic department, the university administration and Winthrop in general.  I was treated in the most professional manner and I wish Winthrop soccer continued success.”

Posipanko says he is pleased that Hindson is getting this opportunity to further enhance his goal of becoming a Division I head coach in the near future.  “Phil has a tremendous work ethic and is very knowledgeable.  Much of our success over the past four years can be attributed to his hard work,” said Posipanko.  “I am not only losing an outstanding coach, but also a very good and loyal friend.  There is no question that Phil will make a very positive contribution to Clemson soccer, but just as important, Coach Adair is getting a first class person.  We all wish him the best.”

During Hindson’s four years as Posipanko’s assistant, Winthrop has a combined record of 47-28-5, and a Big South Conference regular season and tournament championship in 2002.  That same year, Winthrop was ranked among the top 48 teams in the nation by Soccer America and  ranked fifth in nation in scoring.  The 2003 Eagle soccer squad was ranked as high as 7th in the NCAA South Region and 36th in nationally.
