ROCK HILL, SC – Winthrop’s Tyrone Walker was named Second Team All-Conference, while Torrell Martin was named to the All-Freshman Team and Alex Spotts was named to the All-Academic Team, the Big South Conference announced Monday.
Walker, a senior forward from North Augusta, SC, averaged 13 points and 7.8 rebounds to lead the Eagles to a 16-11 record and third seed in the Big South Conference Tournament, which begins Tuesday. He shot 45 percent from the field and leads the team with 352 points scored.
Martin, a freshman guard from Airport High School in Columbia, SC, is averaging 8.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
Spotts, a sophomore guard/forward from Columbia, SC, is averaging 4.0 points and almost 2 rebounds per game. Spotts, a transfer from Rice University, is undecided on a major.
Birmingham-Southern’s Duane Reboul was honored as the league’s Coach of the Year, while Danny Gathings of High Point was voted the league’s Player of the Year. Liberty’s Larry Blair was named the Freshman of the Year.
