ELON, NC--Winthrop University head tennis coach Cid Carvalho has been voted the 2003 Big South Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Eagles to a 16-1 overall record and a top seed in this week's conference championships with a 7-0 slate.
For Carvalho, who is in his 18th season at the Winthrop helm, this year's award marks the 10th time that he has been selected either a women's or men's Big South Conference Coach of the Year. He has now been honored eight times for coaching the women's team and has received the award twice on the men's side.
His women's teams have captured six of the last nine Big South Conference titles and he hopes to add to that list this weekend as the Lady Eagles look to defend their title and earn a second straight trip to the NCAA regionals and third in the past four years.
Carvalho's coaching record in women's tennis now stands at 181-128.
