ROCK HILL, SC--Honors continue to roll in for the Winthrop soccer team and its players.
College Soccer News released its All-American team and Francis Wakhisi was named honorable mention All-American. The 2002 First Team All-Big South selection had 21 goals, five assists for 47 points this season. He was also a First Team All-Region selection and finished ninth in the nation in scoring.
Wakhisi played a large role in leading the Eagles to a Big South Conference Championship and the NCAA College Cup South Regional.
"Franco certainly had a great career and outstanding season at Winthrop," said head coach Rich Posipanko. "He deserves everything he gets. His work ethic is tremendous. We all wish him the best of luck at the next level."
Wakhisi was drafted by the Virginia Beach Mariners in the second round of the A-League draft last week. He is eligible for the MLS draft on Jan. 17, 2003.
