ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop’s Francis Wakhisi and Steve Winton are ranked among the NCAA national statistical leaders through games of Sept. 22.
Wakhisi is averaging a goal per game and that ranks him 10th in the nation, tied with 12 other players. Wakhisi scored another goal in Wednesday’s 7-0 over High Point to keep up his pace.
Winton is ranked 6th in the nation in saves per game at 6.80. His record so far is 3-2-1 and last night he shared a shutout, the first one for the Eagles this season.
Winthrop scored seven goals against High Point and is now averaging 3.0 goals per game, which would rank them 11th in the nation (games through Sept. 25). Last year the Eagles finished second in the nation in scoring at 2.95 goals a game.
