Scott Forbes Hired As New Assistant Baseball Coach

Winthrop Hires Scott Forbes As New Assistant Baseball Coach

ROCK HILL, SC–Scott Forbes, a former assistant baseball coach at the University of North Carolina, has been hired as an assistant at Winthrop University.  He replaces Mike McGuire who left in June to take over as head baseball coach at Lander University.

"We are extremely happy to have Scott join our baseball staff," said Winthrop head coach Joe Hudak. "He is first and foremost a great person and he comes from a highly successful ACC program at North Carolina. He brings a wealth of enthusiasm and experience to our program and he and his wife, Amanda, will be great additions to the Winthrop and Rock Hill communities."

Forbes’ responsibilities, according to Hudak, will be working with the Eagle catchers, assisting with hitting instruction, conditioning, and recruiting.

He served at UNC for four years from 1998 until accepting the Winthrop job. Forbes also has served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, North Carolina Wesleyan College for one season and was the head coach during the summers of 1999 and 2000 for the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League. His 2000 Wilmington team was first half champions while his 1999 squad captured the Coastal Plain League championship and earned Forbes Coach of the Year honors as he led Wilmington a a league-record 33-16 record.

"I’m very excited to be at Winthrop and have a chance to work with coach Hudak, coach (Jeremy) Keller and coach (Chris) Cook. With the new facility and excellent baseball tradition here at the University, I am excited to get going," said Forbes.

He played collegiately for one year at Middle Georgia College (1994) and for three years at North Carolina Wesleyan (1995-1997) where he helped lead that school to a fifth place finish in the Div. III College World Series. During that season, Forbes was voted MVP of the Dixie Athletic Conference and broke a Div. III record for most doubles in a season.

He and his wife, Amanda, reside in Rock Hill where she is employed with First Union.
