Volleyball Teams Wins Sixth Straight; Lehman Sets Dig Record

    ROCK HILL, SC–Senior outside hitter Erin Lehman became the all-time Winthrop career dig leader as she led the Eagles to an easy 3-0 home victory over Birmingham-Southern College Sunday afternoon. Winthrop has now won six straight and eight of its last nine matches to improve its record to 10-6 while Birmingham-Southern falls to 4-9.

    Lehman now has 1,258 career digs after collecting nine against the Panthers. She broke the old record of 1,252 held by Michelle Vandrovec who played for the Eagles from 1994-1997. Lehman also had nine kills to close to within 11 of the Winthrop career record of 1,256 held by Kara Galer (1996-1999).

    In winning 3-0 (30-12, 30-23 and 30-13), Winthrop dominated the match offensively as it out hit the visitors .391 to .078. Six different Eagles hit better than .300 led by sophomore Christie Davis at .667. Jennifer Pritchard and Sarah Brown led the Eagles with 10 kills each. Davis also had 40 assists from her setter position. Danielle Graff led Birmingham-Southern with a .333 hitting percentage.

    As a team Winthrop had 15 service aces and 44 defensive digs compared to BSC’s two aces and 22 digs.

    Winthrop will be back in action Tuesday, Oct. 2, when it travels to Conway to face Coastal Carolina in a Big South Conference match.
