LEXINGTON, VA-The Eagles men's and women's indoor track teams broke or tied six school records at the Virginia Military Institute Invitational held this past weekend on the campus of VMI.
Twelve schools competed in the invitational, which included Big South Conference members High Point, Liberty and Radford, along with Lynchburg College, Roanoke College, Eastern Mennonite University, Savannah State, Christopher-Newport, University of Charleston, WV and Washington & Lee.
On the men's side, senior Rod Lorick set a school record in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.56 seconds and also set a new school record in the long jump with a jump of 23 feet even. Along with Lorick, sophomore RJ Rady broke the school record for the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.10 seconds. With a jump of 6 feet, 6 inches, both junior Sean Seifert and freshman Brandon Morton tied the school record in the high jump.
On the women's side sophomore, Octavia Goode ran the 55 meter dash in 7.2 seconds to take first place. Goode also grabbed the individual title for the entire meet. Freshman, Lovonia Haywood started her Winthrop career strong as she tied the school record in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches.
Another top performer at the invitational was junior Wayne Alston who placed second in the shot put with a toss of 48 feet, 5 inches.
Next up for the Eagles will be the Appalachian State Invitational on Jan. 18.
