Vali Arnason, class of 2004, was a four-time All-Big South Conference men’s soccer performer, becoming just the third player in school history to accomplish that feat. He was a three-time First Team selection in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and was a Second Team selection in 2000. He was voted the 2001 Big South Conference Player of the Year and was the 2002 Big South Tournament Most Valuable Player. In 2002 he led Winthrop to its first Big South Conference championship. He was a 2003 Third Team NSCAA Academic All-American and was a NSCAA/adidas All-South Region selection in 2001 and 2002. During his Winthrop career, he scored 43 goals and had 14 assists in 78 games. He also scored 13 game-winning goals in his career. Since graduating, he has been playing professional soccer in Iceland.
