Torrell Martin (Class of 2007) had an outstanding career as he helped lead Winthrop to a 52-10 Big South Conference record and a 95-31 overall mark in four years. He was a key member of the Winthrop team that captured the first-ever NCAA Tournament victory in 2007 with a 74-64 win over Notre Dame. Martin played on three-straight Big South Conference Championship teams, which received automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament during his sophomore, junior and senior years. He was a two-time Big South Conference First Team selection in 2005 and 2006, earned Second Team honors in 2007, was voted to the 2004 Big South Conference All-Freshman Team, and was voted Big South Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player twice in 2005 and 2006. He was also voted to the Big South Conference All-Decade Team (2000-09). Martin ranks 6th on Winthrop’s all-time scoring list with 1,387 points as he averaged 12.8 points for his career and ranks among the Top 50 all-time leading scorers in Big South history. He has played professionally in Europe for the past eight years and was an All-Star selection in Germany in 2010.
