She was named an outstanding college athlete of America while playing for Winthrop. Following an outstanding amateur career, she joined the Australian Women’s Professional Association in 1973 and the LPGA in 1974. She played competitively until her retirement in 1988. While on the Australian Tour she finished second in the 1973 Sydney Classic and during her years on the LPGA tour, she won the 1981 Corning Classic. As an amateur, she captured the 1970 Southern Women’s Championship and was ranked seventh among U.S. amateurs. She was South Carolina Women’s Champion in 1966 and 1969. In 2000, she was inducted into the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame. James now lives in Palm Desert, CA where she conducts junior clinics and sells real estate.
