Gregg Marshall, who was inducted into the Big South Conference Hall of Fame in 2012, led the Winthrop men’s basketball team to seven conference titles and seven appearances in the NCAA tournament during his nine years as head coach. He posted five 20-plus win seasons and guided Winthrop to an overall record of 194-83 and a 104-24 record in Big South games. His Winthrop teams also compiled a 19-2 record in nine conference tournaments. He was voted Big South Conference Coach of the Year four times and his overall games (70%) and conference-only games (81.3%) winning percentages are the highest in league history. In 2006-07, he led Winthrop to a NCAA Div. I school-record 29 wins and the first NCAA first round victory in Winthrop and Big South history with a win over Notre Dame. He has served as head coach at Wichita State since 2007 and has led the Shockers to the 2011 NIT championship and into the 2013 Final Four as champions of the West Regional.
