He graduated in 1999 with a degree in finance following an outstanding career as a right handed pitcher for the Winthrop baseball team. In addition to a stellar career on the diamond, He also excelled in the classroom. He was a first team All-Big South Conference selection in 1998 and was voted the Big South Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1998 and 1999. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays. Steffler ranks seventh in Winthrop career strikeouts with 221 and is sixth in career innings pitched with 277. He is tied for sixth on the career wins list with 21 pitching victories and is tied for second in career starts with 44 and sixth for career complete games with 13. He was named to both the President’s List and Dean’s List as a student.
