Almeida was the first four-time Big South Conference men's tennis Player of the Year from 2002-2005.  He compiled an impressive career singles record of 113-27 and had a four-year Big South Conference match record of 40-1.  As a freshman, he became the first player in Winthrop history to go undefeated as he finished with a 23-0 record.  In 2002, he was voted the Big South Conference Freshman of the Year and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Region 2 Rookie of the Year.  He led the Eagles to back-to-back Big South Conference championships in 2004 and 2005 and he finished his senior year ranked among the ITA's Top 50 players nationally.  He also excelled in the classroom and was a two-time Big South Conference All-Academic Team selection and was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2004 and 2005.   In 2005 he was received the Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship Award.
