Diana Choibekova has been tabbed the Big South Conference Women’s Basketball Choice Hotels Player of the Week after helping the team to a 2-0 record this past weekend.
Choibekova averaged 28 points per game, shot 52 percent from downtown and connected on 53 percent from the field. She started her weekend with 24 points on 50 percent from the floor and 41 percent from long range, to go along with 11 rebounds and two steals in Winthrop’s win over UNC Asheville on Jan. 14. The 11 rebounds tied her career-best. Two days later against Gardner-Webb, Choibekova tied the Big South single game three-point record as she connected on 10-of-17 and added 10-of-18 from the field. She finished with 32 points, her second 30-point game of the season. She also pulled down four rebounds and dished out three assists against the Runnin’ Bulldogs. 
Choibekova currently leads the Big South and the nation in three-point field goals made per game (4.2). She’s shooting 34 percent behind the arc and is now four triples away from passing Winthrop’s single-season record of 74 set by Tiffany Rodd in the 2006-07 season. She’s currently averaging 16.4 points, which is second best on the team and fifth in the Big South.
