Avelar was impressive over the weekend in his first starts as an Eagle as he helped the team to back-to-back 2-1 victories over Georgia Southern and Wofford College.

On Friday in the season opener, Avelar nearly posted a shutout as the team had a mental lapse with under 30 seconds to play in the game and Georgia Southern headed home a cross straight in front of the net. He had made seven saves up to that point, which included a penalty stop in the 72^nd minute to keep the slate clean. In the win over Wofford, Avelar made four saves on 15 shots faced to help the team claim the Big South/SoCON Challenge.

Avelar was named to the Big South/SoCON Challenge All-Tournament Team.
