Winthrop freshman Michael Chen (Johnson City, TN) captured the Big South Freshman of the Week award this week following his victory against Gardner-Webb.

The honor marks Chen's first Freshman of the Week nod this season.  Chen dropped Brendan Dempsey in straight sets at the No. 6 position, 7-6, 6-4, helping lead the Eagles to a 6-1 win over Gardner-Webb.  Having won four out of his last six
singles matches, this victory pushes Chen's overall singles record to 6-6 on the season.
