ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop baseball team will host High Point for a three-game Big South Conference series this weekend at The Winthrop Ballpark beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
The Eagles enter this weekend with a 10-11 record and are 2-1 in the Big South Conference. The Panthers are 10-9 and 1-2 in the conference. Winthrop and High Point will meet again at 3 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Winthrop is coming off a 10-6 win against Wofford on Wednesday when the Eagles rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth. High Point is entering the game with a 9-0 victory over Davidson.
Junior
Mitch Spires and sophomore
Brandon Fite extended their hitting streaks against Wofford. Spires has now hit in 14 straight games and Fite is on an eight-game streak. Spires has had a hot March as he is hitting .434 this month with 23 hits and 17 runs scored. Senior
Babe Thomas is batting .302 in the month of March with 12 RBI and 11 runs scored.
Winthrop will send senior
Reece Green to the mound on Friday, followed by sophomore Nate Pawelcyzk on Saturday, and freshman
Colton Rendon on Sunday. Green is entering the game with a 1.07 ERA with 22 strikeouts in the month of March. Rendon is coming off is best college performance last Sunday in which he blanked UNC Asheville and allowed only one hit in eight innings against UNC Asheville.
High Point is led by Austen Zente with a .276 average and three doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 15 runs scored. High Point's top pitcher thus far has been Drew Daczkowski, who has a 2-1 record with a 2.10 ERA in five starts and 23 strikeouts.
