Johnson, Cooks Earn NABC All-District Team Honors

ROCK HILL, SC—Keon Johnson and Xavier Cooks garnered more postseason honors as the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced the 2016-17 Division I All-District Teams and Coaches, Wednesday afternoon.

Johnson was named to the First Team District 3 while Cooks was named to the Second Team District 3.

Johnson averaged a career-high 22.3 ppg this season as he was named the Big South Conference Player of the Year and the Big South Conference Tournament MVP after leading the Eagles to a conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth. While the season was loaded with numerous records for Johnson, some of the highlights were becoming the program's all-time leading scorer as well as the all-time leader in free throws made and three-point field goals made.

Cooks enjoyed a career-year in points per game (16.5) and rebounds per game (9.1) that led him to earning a place on the All-Big South First Team. Cooks also earned Big South All-Tournament Team honors after recording double-doubles in each of the three games.

Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division I, these student-athletes and coaches represent the finest basketball players and coaches across America.

Located in Kansas City, MO, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas.  Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.  The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.  All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.  The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education.  Additional information about the NABC, its programs and membership, can be found at www.nabc.com.
