Mills T8th, Gilpin T16th To Lead Men's Golf Team At East Bay Deli Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC—Sawyer Mills tied for 8th and Eric Gilpin tied for 16th as the Winthrop men's golf team tied for 9th at the East Bay Deli Classic at Kiawah.

  • The Eagles tied for 9th with fellow Big South member High Point as it posted a final round 294 (The team's low round of the tournament)
  • Junior Sawyer Mills fired a 73 in the final round to move up four spots and post his first Top 10 of the fall season
  • Mills finished 4th in the event in the fall of 2016, which remains his best collegiate finish
  • Sophomore Zak Butt shot his second consecutive 73 as he finished in a tie for 58th
  • Junior Eric Gilpin had his second straight Top 20 finish as he tied for 16th after a final round 74
  • Freshman Noah Peterson also shot a 74 in the final round as the Eagles were +6 as a team on the day
  • For the event, Gilpin finished in a tie for the second best in Par 3 scoring at -2 while Mills finished tied for 5th best Par 4 scoring
  • Butt, Gilpin and Peterson all finished at -3 for the weekend in Par 5 scoring
  • Gilpin led the Eagles with nine birdies while Mills and Butt had the most pars with 33
