ROCK HILL, SC--Former Winthrop right-handed pitcher Tyler Mizenko has been selected to play in the 2013 South Atlantic League All-Star Game on June 28 at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ.
Mizenko, a 6-2, 200 lb. relief specialist for the San Francisco Giants' Class A affiliate Augusta GreenJackets, will represent his team on the Southern Division squad. Mizenko currently ranks second in the SAL in saves with 13. He has a 1-1 record and a sparkling 0.70 earned run average for Augusta.
He was drafted by the Giants in the 28th round of the 2011 Major League Draft following his junior year with Winthrop. In three years as an Eagle, Mizenko compiled an 11-10 record. After spending two years in the closer's role, Mizenko was used as the No. 1 starting pitcher during his junior year. He responded by compiling a 5-3 record and a 3.79 ERA in n15 starts with 65 strikeouts and 19 bases on balls in 90.1 innings of work. As a freshman and sophomore, he appeared in 53 games, all but two as a reliever and fanned 92 batters in 94.1 innings while compiling a 3.83 ERA.
