HOUSTON, TX--The Winthrop men's golf team opened the 2012 spring season with a 11th place tie out of 15 schools in the 12th annual Rice Intercollegiate that wrapped up Tuesday.
Winthrop shot a 54-hole score of 891 (300-291-300) to tie Missouri State and finish 27 shots behind Northwestern and New Mexico State who finished at 6-under par 862 over the par 72 Westwood Golf Club course that measured 7,184 yards in distance.
The Eagles were led by Gastonia, NC freshman Taylor Dickson who shot 218 (73-72-73) to finish in a tie for 11th place. Northwestern's Eric Chun and Zachery Fullerton of New Mexico State tied for medalist honors as they finished at 6-under par 210.
Jordan Sease (Sr.,Lexington, SC) tied for 38th after shooting 223 (73-76-74). One shot behind Sease at 224 and tied for 46th place was
Kamito Hirai (Jr., Summerville, SC) who had rounds of 78-71-75.
Brandon Truesdale (Sr., Winnsboro, SC) shot 228 (76-73-79) and tied for 58th place while
Cameron Bell (Jr., Charlotte, NC) rounded out Winthrop's scoring with a 68th place finish at 231 (78-75-78).
Winthrop will be back in action in two weeks when it travels to Hoover, AL for the Samford Intercollegiate.
