ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop throws squad recently held its Seventh Annual Odd Objects Throw out at the Irwin Belk Track.
Both the men and women's throw teams tossed objects from a total of six categories and consisted of nine different items.
The six categories were made up of Home Electronics, Kitchen Utensils, Food, Exercise Equipment, Automotive Equipment and Pressurized Beverage Dispensers.
In the Home Electronics category, individuals threw a GE 28” Tube Television, RCA XL100 14” Tube Television and Altec-Lansing Series 100 9-Volt Speakers.
Billy Pearce tossed the GE television 4.33 meters,
Stephanye McCarroll had a best throw of 3.97 meters with the RCA television and Pearce also had a best throw of the Altec-Lansing speakers. He threw the left speaker 29.42 meters and the right speaker 40.91 meters.
Jake Elliott led all men in the Kitchen Utensils throwing section as he tossed the Tork Xpressnap Napkin Holder 25.48 meters, while McCarroll was the only female athlete to throw the napkin holder as it traveled 12.44 meters.
Elliott was also the only male thrower to throw in the Food category as his attempt with a dozen Red Apples went negative distance as the bag broke during his toss.
Pearce and
Cynthia Gordon were the top throwers in the Exercise Equipment section as Pearce was the top thrower for the men and Gordon for the women. Pearce recorded a throw for the 12-pound Powerball of 33.30 meters and Gordon at 17.30 meters.
Gordon led all women in the Automotive Equipment category as her throw of the 14” spare tire registered at 7.21 meters, while
Mark Britton's throw of 9.28 meters topped the men's section.
The final category, Pressurized Beverage Dispensers, consisted of 15.5 gallon and 5.16 gallon dispenser. Gordon was the top thrower for the women in both as she tossed the 15.5 gallon dispenser 6.76 meters and 5.16 gallon dispenser 11.19 meters. Pearce had a best throw of the 15.5 gallon dispenser at 11.35 meters, while Elliott led all men in the 5.16 gallon section with a throw of 19.79 meters.
