Women’s Soccer Places Six On Big South All-Conference Teams

Durbin Named Attacking Player Of The Year, Freda Freshman Of The Year

N. CHARLESTON, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team had a total of six players named to the Big South All-Conference Teams, which were announced on Thursday evening during the Big South Women's Soccer Awards Banquet held on the campus of Charleston Southern University.

Seniors Courtney Durbin and Rachel Webster, junior Allie VandeWater, sophomore Megan Pritts, and freshmen Krystyna Freda and Ashley Herndon all received All-Conference honors for the Eagles.

Durbin, Freda and VandeWater all were selected First Team All-Conference, Pritts picked up Second Team All-Conference accolades, Freda and Herndon earned All-Freshman Team honors, and Webster was named to the All-Academic Team.

Winthrop also had two players receive Player of the Year recognition as Durbin was selected the Big South Attacking Player of the Year and Freda was named the Freshman of the Year. The last time the Eagles had a player named Player of the Year was Dimi Poulos in 2006, while Whitney Sanders earned Freshman of the Year honors in 2003.

Durbin finished the regular season second on the team this season with 10 goals, six assists (team-high) and 26 points, which ties her for second in the Big South for goals, third in points and assists. She recorded her first career hat trick in Winthrop's 3-2 overtime victory over Liberty on Oct. 8, and set a school record for most assists in a game with three in a 7-2 win over Gardner-Webb on Sept. 27 to open conference play. Her six assists this season are tied for most in a season by an Eagle in school history as Erin Foote initially set the mark in 2006 and Chelsea White equaled it in 2007. Durbin was named Big South Attacking Player of the Week on Oct. 12 for her hat trick performance against the Flames. It is also the second straight season that Durbin has been named First Team All-Conference by the Big South.

Freda finished the regular season in the Big South ranked first in shots (91), goals (16), points (35) and game-winning goals (7), while also leading Winthrop in each of those categories. Her seven game-winning goals are tied for most in a season in conference history, and is tied for fourth nationally. She has compiled five multi-goal games this season, and has two hat tricks. Freda also ranks in the top 20 nationally in points per game, goals per game, total goals and total points. Freda set the Eagles school record this season for shots, goals, points and game-winning goals. She has been named to the Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll by CS360 and recently to Soccer America's National Women's Team of the Week. Freda was also one of three unanimous choices for the All-Freshman Team.

VandeWater picks up her second straight First Team All-Conference recognition after compiling five points for the season on one goal and three assists. She scored her only goal of the season in a 6-0 victory over USC Upstate, and dished out two assists in a 4-2 win against South Carolina State. Her other assist came against Coastal Carolina on Oct. 27. VandeWater has started in all 18 games this season for the Eagles.

Pritts has played in a team-high 1562 minutes this season for Winthrop, while making the transition to the defender position after spending all of last season as a midfielder. She has started in all 18 games this season and attempted a total of three shots. Pritts has taken one shot each against Francis Marion, USC Upstate and East Tennessee State. Pritts helps anchor a defensive backfield for the Eagles that has compiled three shutouts, and held opponents to 1.41 goals per game.

In her first season at Winthrop, Herndon has played in 17 games with 15 starts and has four points on one goal and two assists. Her first career assist came in her first collegiate game against Georgia Southern, which led to a game-winning goal. She then added her second assist of the season in the Eagles 2-1 win over East Tennessee State. Herndon's first collegiate goal came in the form of a game-winner in a 3-1 victory over Coastal Carolina.

The All-Academic Team selection for Webster is the third of her career, the most by a player in Winthrop history. Webster has started in all 16 contests this season, and tallied seven points on one goal and five assists. She is currently second on the team in assists and fifth in points. Webster dished out a season-best two assists twice in 2011 against USC Upstate and Charleston Southern in the season-finale. She also had an assist in the season-opener against Georgia Southern. Her lone goal of the season came in a 3-1 victory over UNC Asheville in the Eagles final home game of the season. She currently holds a 3.963 GPA and is majoring in Elementary Education.
